The major industry in the Louisa area relates to the coal industry, although not much coal is actually mined in the county now.  Louisa is a point where coal hauling trucks and trains travel through as they carry coal mined in the counties south of Lawrence County to the coal loading river docks north.

• American Electric Power Company has a large plant about 11 miles north of the city and that is basically all the heavy industry located in the immediate Louisa area.

There are a variety of service businesses in Louisa and with the development of the Yatesville Lake, the community is also gearing towards the tourism industry as a viable part of our economy.

The Louisa area is served by a state-of-the-art cable TV company, Lycom Communications, that offers a wide variety of cable TV packages to choose from.  The company is now offering High Speed Internet Service.
