Louisa City releases guidelines for garbage In order for city workers in Louisa to effectively pick up residential garbage, the following guidelines must be followed: 1. Garbage must be placed in garbage bags and placed at the curbside by 7 a.m. Large boxes should be cut up to allow for easier handling. The city workers will not go back through the route to pick up garbage not placed out by the 7 a.m. deadline. These will have to be held until the next weekly pick up. 2. The average number of weekly trash bags per household is 1-6 bags. For customers who produce more than 6 bags on a continuous basis may be subject to an additional handling fee. 3. In the event there is a problem with dogs or cats getting into the trash bags placed out for collection, please use trash cans with lids to hold the bags. The city is not responsible to pick up trash that has been spread by an animal. If there is an animal control problem in your neighborhood, please notify the county animal control officer. 4. Place all sharp objects, such as broken glass, razor blades, used hypodermic needles, etc., in a puncture proof container before disposing in the trash. 5. Call for special pick up of the following items: partially full paint cans, car batteries, used tires or material containing asbestos. These items should not be placed in bags as to obscure the contents. These items can cause an injury to the city workers and these require special disposal techniques. 6. If you are in doubt about what day your street or neighborhood is scheduled for trash collection, please call city hall for information at 638-4050. 7. Through the PRIDE Grant, the city provides large commercial dumpsters at the city garage on Clayton Lane. According to the PRIDE Grant guidelines, these dumpsters can be used by all city residents. These dumpsters can be used for roadside clean-up activities as well as residents cleaning up their property or for the disposal of items other than regular residential trash. There is no fee for using these dumpsters. These commercial dumpsters are in use for limited time periods according to the guidelines of the PRIDE Grant. 8. Fee schedule is (per month), $9 in city; $6 in city (senior citizens- 65 years old); $10 out of city; $7 out of city (senior citizens- 65 years old). For new customer
information, call 638-4050. The city serves households in all of the city as
well as outside the city limits in Highbottom, Springhill, Eloise, Point Section
and along parts of Route 2656 and Route 23. |
